Every year fire causes severe property damage, employee injuries and deaths. Knowing fire hazards and maintaining fire protection systems in a good conditions help greatly to reduce the fire hazard.

The Fire protection and inspection course is aimed to provide participants with the competency needed to maintain and inspect fire systems. It provides employees with the necessary knowledge to monitor and maintain fire protection systems in their work areas.

 

Objectives:

Upon the completion of the Fire Protection and Inspection course, successful participants will be able to:

  • Identify fire hazards and control.
  • List fixed extinguishing system components.
  • Demonstrate understanding of fixed extinguishing system operation, maintenance and testing.
  • Describe the hazards of carbon dioxide and halon systems.
  • State the purpose of fire alarm system.
  • State the requirements of fire alarm device.
  • Demonstrate understanding of alarm system operation, maintenance and testing.
  • List fire blankets inspection procedures.
  • List fire hose types and sizes.
  • Demonstrate understanding of fire hose inspection and testing.
  • Discuss fire and extinguisher operation.
  • Identify types of fire.
  • Identify fire extinguishers types.
  • Demonstrate understanding of fire extinguishers operation, inspection and maintenance.
  • State fire extinguishers documentation record keeping requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic fire first aid.

 

Scope:

This course covers:          

  • The theory of Fire.
  • Fixed extinguishing system.
  • Fire alarm system.
  • Fire blankets.
  • Fire hoses.
  • Portable fire extinguishers.
  • Basic fire first aid.

 

 

 

Practical Assessment:

  • Identify the type of fire and extinguishing agents.
  • Inspection of a portable fire extinguisher.
  • Demonstrate use of fire extinguishers.
  • Oral questions could be added as assessor sees fit.

 

Target Audience:

This course is suited for responsible for maintenance and inspection of fire protection systems.

 

Test:

A multiple-choice test is administered at the conclusion of the program. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

 

Course Materials:

All participants are issued a Training Manual (Student Guide).

 

Course Completion Certificate:

Program participants who successfully complete the course are issued a certificate of completion.
