Fall Protection for the Competent Person course ensures that a student will receive all of the proper training pursuant to OSHAs requirement of Competent Persons for this standard 29 CFR 1926.500.

This course will go beyond the basic awareness level of introductory courses and into details necessary when learning not just how to protect yourself, but what it takes to create a safe working environment for those you may be responsible for.

Objectives:
Given all trainees have adequate experience working with fall protection equipment, standards and procedures, at the conclusion of this course, Trainees will be able to:

  • Given various situations and examples, identify fall hazards and make recommendations for correction.
  • Given various handouts, fall protection equipment, situations and examples, prevent, reduce the impact of, and manage risks associated with fall hazards.
  • Discuss, in general, roles and responsibilities of all persons involved in evolutions requiring fall protection to include rescue planning.
  • Discuss, in detail, the roles and responsibilities of a Fall Protection Competent Person.
  • Discuss, in detail, the roles and responsibilities of a Fall Protection Authorized person.
  • Demonstrate proper inspection, use, care, assembly, breakdown and storage of Fall Protection Equipment.

Scope:
This course covers:

  • Equipment and use.
  • Estimating and limiting the maximum arresting force to acceptable limits for the PFAS.
  • Proper methods of donning, adjusting, and interconnecting of the equipment.
  • Proper attachment locations on the equipment.
  • Intended function and performance characteristics for each item of equipment.
  • Proper attachment methods including compatibility of the sizes of snap hooks, d-rings, and other connections to reduce the probability of accidental disengagement.
  • How to determine free fall distance and total fall distance.
  • What to do after a fall to protect the user from in-jury.
  • Emergency rescue planning and execution.
  • Adult education methodology.

3 days

Exercise:

Teach a 20-minute topic relating to fall protection.

Target Audience:
This course is intended for those who are assigned by their employer to take on the responsibilities of performing workplace assessments of fall hazards, selecting and assessing the compatibility of fall protection equipment, managing the jobsite fall protection program, and ensuring rescue procedures are in place and applicable to the given environment.

Test:
A multiple-choice test is administered at the conclusion of the program. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

Course Materials:
All participants are issued a Training Manual (Student Guide).

Validity:

Fall protection trainer the trainer course is valid for two years.

Course Completion Certificate:
Program participants who successfully complete the course are issued a certificate of completion and fall protection train the trainer card.
